Akiko Miller topped the Drag Race Marianas held last June 26 along the Gov. Froilan C. Tenorio Beach Road Pathway starting from the Garapan Fishing Base to the Japanese World War II tank and back.

Miller completed the 5-kilometer run or walk event in a time of 21:55. Fordham University track and field varsity member Tania Tan came in second overall with a time of 22:54, while Chong Nam Lee was third and with a time of 24:04.

Drag Race Marianas was organized by Pride Marianas Youth and PalmTrio 670 and PalmTrio 670 member Jefferson Mateo said they held the event in celebration of Pride Month and for the benefit of the LGBTQIA+ community.

“It was a beautiful way to start our Saturday morning. We saw the community come together with smiles, excitement, and pride! There was about a 100 people at the event, including volunteers. Participants alone were about 80. The atmosphere was fresh and colorful as we welcomed the people of our community in our first event that we organized,” he told Saipan Tribune. Mateo thanked everyone who took part in the first-ever Drag Race Marianas and also extended Pride Marianas Youth and PalmTrio 670’s thank you for the sponsors and other partners of the event.

“We wanted to organize this event to pay respect to the LGBTQIA+ community in a way that we take care of our mental and physical health. Overall, the event was fun, colorful, and successful! The event would have not been a success without the participants, our sponsors, and our partners. We are truly grateful and we wish to make this an annual event,” he said.

All participants of Drag Race Marianas received participatory medals courtesy of Pride Marianas Youth and PalmTrio 670 and their sponsors.
