House of Representatives freshman Rep. Frank Aguon (R-Saipan) has stepped down as resident treasurer and board member of the Commonwealth Cancer Association.

Aguon served as a CCA board member for a year.

He stepped down as board member at the association’s board meeting last Jan. 19 to prioritize his membership with the 20th Legislature.

Aguon told Saipan Tribune that he would continue to support CCA at “the other end of the spectrum.”

“I believe that to continue advocating for CCA, I want to do it up at the Hill [Capital Hill]. I want people [to be aware] that [CCA] is serious when it comes to addressing cancer,” said Aguon. “I am and will continue to be a staunch supporter and advocate for cancer survivors and patients.”

Aguon said the public should get to know the CCA more. “I just want to let the public know that CCA is a worth checking out because CCA has an outreach program that is available and anyone that is diagnosed with cancer is free to come over and see what benefits CCA has to offer in relation to their illness,” he said.

The board meeting also saw the election of Roman “Bo” Palacios as the new president of CCA.

Other new CCA board members are Alicia Deleon Guerrero, Nora Sablan, and Cesar Dumatol. Malua Peter was also re-elected.
