The Saipan and Northern Islands Farmers Association is encouraging all farmers and ranchers to register early for the upcoming Agricultural Fair to be held on June 27.

The official rules and regulations have been posted. Copies are available online at http://www.cnmiforestry.com/community-events ; www.crees.org; and http://deq.gov.mp/sec.asp?secID=55. Print copies are available at the Agriculture office in Kagman, Northern Marianas College CREES in As Terlaje, Department of Lands and Natural Resources in Lower Base, Animal Health Industry office in As Perdido, and the Farmer’s Public Market in Garapan.

Sid Cabrera, a long-time member of the planning committee and this year’s rule chairman, says sustaining the fair also helps sustain the local economy. The fair is a way to acknowledge the islands’ hardworking ranchers and farmers.

“I hope they [farmers, ranchers] will show up at the orientation meeting so we can hear their concerns,” Cabrera said.

The Agricultural Fair is slated for Saturday, June 27. Prizes for the plant category total $7,000 while animal category shall reach $4,000. Farmers and ranchers are encouraged to start preparing their crops and livestock for entry, and need to pre-register.

The association is also selling advertisement pages to help defray costs. SNIAFA is seeking for the following sponsorships: Platinum, $5,000; Gold, $3,000; Silver, $2,000; and Bronze, $1,000. Interested donors may contact SNIAFA at 664-8512.

The 2015 fair will take place on Saturday, June 27, at the 4-H Building in Susupe. For general inquiries, call DLNR at 322-9834, NMC CREES at 234-9630 or Division of Agriculture at 256-3319. (PR)
