Agape keeps perfect slate

Agape Christian School is still undefeated in the middle school division of the 2015-2016 Coalition of Private School Sports Association Basketball League as it bagged two more wins last week.
The Torchbearers posted their most recent victory against Grace Christian Academy, 42-18, at the ACS court in Middle Road last Thursday, while the other win was versus Seventh Day Adventist, 59-11, last Feb. 9 also at Agape’s home turf.
Against GCA, Haoyu Chen and Dawei Cai teamed up in lifting Agape to the 24-point victory after scoring 14 and 10 points, respectively. It was the Torchbearers second win in as many games opposite the Eagles as the former also routed the latter during the league’s opening game, 37-12.
In their second outing, Chen dropped 10 of his total points in the first quarter to help Agape establish an early double-digit lead, 16-6. Cui contributed 4, while Tychicus Xu added 2 in the opening period for Agape.
The Eagles got 4 points from Eun Syu Hahn and 2 from Eun Ho Si and though other players hit the board in the next two quarters, GCA failed to score in the final canto to bow to Agape anew.
In the Agape-SDA match Chen was again at the forefront of the Torchbearers’ offense, firing 21 points. Cai was also there to back up Chen, as the former broke into double figures with 10 points.
Alll 10 players of coach Noel Puno made it to Agape’s box score to whip SDA, which draw points from only four players.
SDA was scoreless in the first period, allowing Agape to pull away, 17-0. Chen was unstoppable on offense early on, logging 13 points, while Xu and Cai combined for the 4 other markers.
Meanwhile, Agape’s two other victories in the double-round robin elimination came from Saipan Community School and Mt. Carmel School.
Agape earned its closest win so far in the league against SCS with the former notching a 31-23 win last Feb. 2. As expected Chen starred in the win, drilling 18 points.
Chen then exploded for 34 points against Mt. Carmel last Feb. 4 to power Agape to a 54-41 victory.
Chen and company will put their immaculate record on the line today when they take on defending champion Saipan International School.
