Agape Christian School defeated Saipan International School 2 in two sets, while Grace Christian Academy topped two Mt. Carmel School teams in the 2019-2020 PSS Interscholastic Girls High School Volleyball League last Thursday at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.

Agape eked out a 25-20 victory in the first set and then had an easier triumph in the second, 25-17, for the sweep.

In the GCA-Mt. Carmel showdown, the Lady Eagles also needed only two sets to down MCS 1, 25-13, 25-7. For its second game, GCA eased past MCS 2 in the opening set, 25-8, and then duplicated its earlier win after a 25-17 triumph in the second.

Meanwhile, SIS 1, MHS 2, Saipan Southern High School, and Kagman High School were the other teams that competed in last Thursday’s games.

The Lady Geckos 1 earned a double-digit win over MCS 2 in the first set, 25-15, and then secured the sweep with a dominant victory, 25-9.

While SIS 1 eased its way past MCS 2, it was a different story for MHS 2, which took three sets to notch the win. The Lady Dolphins got the first set, 25-19, but the Lady Manta Rays redeemed themselves in the second set, 25-15. With the game tied, the opposing squads played in the deciding third set with MHS 2 winning, 15-8.

Last Thursday’s games were the last set of matches played in the league, which is put on hold until repairs at the MHS Gymnasium are done.

Public School System’s Student Support Services athletic program director Nick Gross announced last Monday that they are postponing after- school sports programs at the facility after discovering additional damage at the gym. PSS does not wants students to play in an unsafe facility and it vowed to fast-track the repair work so games can resume by next week.
