Attorney General Edward Manibusan advanced to the season-ending Saipan Golfers Association Ace of Aces Tournament after topping the club’s June Ace of the Month Tournament last June 27 at the Coral Ocean Resort golf course.
The highest-ranking law enforcement officer of the islands posted the lowest score of the day after shooting a net 68. Manibusan started out strong by firing an even par 36 in the front nine. He struggled a bit in the back nine, shooting a 5-over par 41. Minus his 9 handicap, he came away with the net 68.
“Happy to be back on the course after weeks in hibernation. The condition of the course was great,” he said.
Manibusan actually finished tied with eventual runner-up Rick Kautz as both men finished with an identical score of net 68. However, Manibusan beat Kautz in a scorecard tiebreak to win the June tourney. Kautz recorded his net 68 built around a gross of 80. The 12-handicapper had a 39 in the first nine holes and a 41 in the final nine holes.
Veteran golfer Nick Sablan was third for the June tourney. This, after the former CNMI national golf team member shot a net of 70. The 9-handicapper fired a 40 in the front nine before coming away with a 39 in the back nine.
Manibusan now joins previous SGA’s 2021 Ace of the Month winners Das Krishnan (January), Joe I. Sablan (February), Frances M. Sablan (March), Rick Kautz (April), and Tony Benavente (May).
The next SGA Ace of the Month Tournament for July 2021 is at the Laolao Golf & Resort this coming Sunday, Aug. 29. Tee time is set at 9:30am with a show time of 9am.
