King and Queen of the Diamonds return
The 2008 Budweiser King and Queen of the Diamonds will return this month with games to be held at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan and Capital Hill fields.
Tournament coordinator Joey Dela Cruz said the first round of the co-ed slow-pitch softball tournament will be held on May 16 to 18 and it is open to all Saipan residents 18 years old and above.
Games will be played at the “Tan Ge” field in the first day of the tournament while the last two days will be held at Capital Hill.
Dela Cruz said he is limiting the competition to the first 10 teams that would sign up. The entrance fee is $150 in the three-round tournament where the champions will automatically qualify for the final in October.
The second round will be held on July 19 and 20 and the third and final round will be on Sept. 20 and 21. The second and third place teams in each round will play in a single-elimination format in the consolation draw with the fourth and final spot in the championship round at stake.
Teams need to play in two out of the three rounds in order to qualify for the wild card playoff.
The winner of the championship round will get a all-expense paid trip to Palau to represent Saipan in the Budweiser King and Queen of the Diamonds finals in Koror in November.
The deadline of submission of entries and payment is on May 15, Thursday, where a coaches meeting will also be held to further discuss the upcoming slow-pitch tournament. The meeting will be held at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room at 6pm.
Two female players must need to play on the field at the same time.
Interested teams can now get their waiver forms from Dela Cruz at the Ada Gym.
