Govt cage league opening pushed back
Inter-government Basketball League coordinator Joey Dela Cruz once again practiced leniency to all participating teams, pushing back the opening of the annual cage league.
Dela Cruz said they postponed the opening date to May 12, Monday, to give teams more time to complete the $500 entrance fee. The deadline of payment is on May 8, Thursday.
The league was supposed to open on May 5. Checks can be made payable to the Division of Sports and Recreation.
Dela Cruz added he also introduced a payment scheme to lessen the financial burden of the participating teams. He said that each team can make a $250 down payment with the remaining balance need to be paid by the end of their third game.
Thirteen teams have signified their intention of joining the 2008 season of the annual cage league for government agencies and departments. Games will be held at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym conference room.
The 13-team field is led by defending champion Office of the Public Auditor and last year’s runner-up Northern Marianas College-Proa. The other 11 squads are Department of Community and Cultural Affairs, Commonwealth Health Center, Department of Corrections, Airport Rescue Fire Fighters, Tinian, Aguaguat, Ports Police, Legislature, Fire, Department of Public Works/Procurement and Supply, and Mayor’s Office.
The tournament will follow a single round-robin format with the Top 8 teams advancing to the double-elimination round playoffs.
Games will be played every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with the first and second games scheduled at 6:30pm and 8pm.
