MASA eyes July motor-sports events
The Marianas Automotor Sports Association is planning to hold three motor-sports events in July to continue their promotion of the sport as well as attract competitors from Guam.
MASA president Kazu Ikeda said there is not much activity in their association for the past year since they don’t have a permanent racetrack yet to hold their activities.
Ikeda, however, is optimistic that the planned track in Marpi is possible in the near future. He said the track would boost the CNMI tourism industry since the racetrack would be an added attraction on Saipan.
Ikeda and his group plan to hold three events for off-road racing enthusiasts. They are looking of holding a rock crawling, obstacle course, and mud bog/mud drag race sometime in July.
He said he has already opened up the idea to AMBROSE Guam’s John Shimizu, who plans to ship over their off-road buggies on Saipan for the July event.
AMBROSE is the sister company of MARPAC, which distributes Budweiser and other Anheuser-Busch products in Guam and the CNMI.
Ikeda said the Budweiser monster, the Budlight buggy, and the new buggy of Joey Quichocho will be shipped to Saipan in time for the race. All three buggies have won in the Smokin’ Wheels off-road event this year.
He said he is expecting to get the community’s full support for the event. “The main thing here is, we need a place. This is the problem. I am hoping that there could be a place that we could develop a course, not only for this time only, but for other off-road racing events in the future for the use of local racers.”
