The second Kids XTEARRA triathlon event kicks off on Saturday with the venue going back to the Marianas Resort & Spa in the Kan Pacific grounds in Marpi.

Event organizer and Saipan Swim Club coach Michael Stewart said the swim leg would be held at the Marpi pool while the bike and run portions will be around the Kan Pacific grounds. The distances have also changed.

The 8-and-under division is divided into a 100m swim, 600m bike, and 400m run, while 9-10 year olds will have a 200m swim, 800m bike, and 400m run as the distances. Eleven to 12-year-olds will have a 300m swim, 1-km bike, and 400m run, while the 13-and-over will test the 300m swim, 2-km bike, and 800m run course.

Stewart said he is requiring all participants to use bikes that have “fat” tires and helmets for the race.

The entrance fee is $5 for Northern Mariana Islands Triathlon Federation family members and $10 for non-members. Membership sign-up will be available during the event.

Sign-up begins at 7am while the race starts at 8am. Parents are also needed to assist in the racecourse.

On April 12, 11 kids in three age divisions joined the season’s first XTEARRA triathlon, which took place last Saturday at the Kan Pacific grounds.

Kento Akimaru, Maxi Braig, Nuri Gutzwiller, and the relay team of Kazumi Otake and Pia Tenorio won their respective age divisions.

After Saturday’s race, another kids triathlon sponsored by the NMITF will be held in June.
