NMASA May general membership meeting tonight
The Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association will hold its regular monthly meeting tonight, May 1, 7pm at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium conference room.
As always, NMASA member associations will vote for the best athletes for the previous month (April) in four categories (male, female, male student, and female student) during the May general membership meeting.
NMASA reminds associations that will be nominating their athletes to submit written nominations in multiple copies to be distributed to members during the meeting.
According to NMASA president Michael A. White, among the topics also set to be discussed during the meeting will be the CNMI’s participation in the 2009 Pacific Mini Games in the Cook Islands.
Cook Islands last year announced that 15 sports featured in the 2009 edition of the quadrennial Games. The 15 sports are up from the 12 offered during the VII Pacific Mini Games held in Koror, Palau in 2005.
Athletics, table tennis, triathlon, va’a or outrigger canoeing, and weightlifting, bodybuilding, boxing, lawn bowls, rugby league, and touch rugby are the sports lined up for the 2009 Cook Islands Pacific Mini Games.
White earlier said the CNMI could possibly send athletes in six of the sports, namely athletics, golf, table tennis, triathlon, sailing, and va’a or outrigger canoeing.
White said he is advising all six sports federations to start preparing for the 2009 Pacific Mini Games.
“The cost of participation is $3,200 per person, about the same in what we budgeted [going] to Samoa. Now is the time to start getting organized and raising funds.”
