Defending champion SaipanCell Patriots continued with their title push when they scored a 13-0 shutout win over the San Antonio Dragons in Saturday’s Majors division match at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Field.

Christian Mizer was menacing on the mound as he was almost untouchable in the game shortened by the 10-run mercy rule. He only needed 50 pitches to give the Patriots their ninth win against one loss to enjoy a half game lead over the second-running Happy Market Ol’Aces.

Mizer pitched four innings as he held the Dragons, supported by Pacific Islands Club and Deloitte & Touch, to a 1-for-12 in batting. He also had seven strikeouts and one walk.

Gerard Cabrera had the Dragons’ lone hit when he singled off Mizer in the second inning to move Jose Ngeskebei, who was walked by Mizer, to third base.

The Patriots defense caught Cabrera, who tried to steal second base, on a 2-6 putout play when catcher Jun Rabauliman threw to shortstop Jeremy Rabauliman to make the tag for the first out in the third.

Mizer struck out Nathan Camacho and Angelo Jones to strand Ngeskebei at third base.

Mizer, Jeremy Rabauliman, and Alan Aguon homered for the Patriots as they led the SaipanCell crew’s hit parade, which batted 13-for-22.

Mizer and Rabauliman combined for 4-for-4 in batting and blasted similar two-run home runs in the first and third innings.

Mizer also scored twice, had four RBIs, and a two-RBI double in the second inning. Rabauliman made three runs, had three RBIs, and an RBI double in the first.

Aguon went 2-for-3 with two runs, and a two-run four-bagger also in the first inning. Ray Tenorio went 2-for-2 with two runs and a double.

Camacho earned the loss as he gave up 13 hits in two innings of work with no strikeouts and allowed two walks.

Survivors 15, Little Lions 14

The Martha’s Store Survivors lived up to their name, surviving a late surge by the Kagman Little Lions of Reps. Ed Salas and Rosmond Santos to squeeze out a 15-14 win.

Vicente Cabrera earned the win for the Survivors, pitching one inning in relief, giving up two hits with one strikeout and four walks. He had plenty of run support from the Survivors led by Poland Masaharu’s 3-for-4 performance at the plate.

Masaharu also scored three runs, had a double, and three RBIs. He had a two-RBI single in the third and an RBI double in the fifth.

Philip Sablan went 2-for-4 with two runs, a double, and two RBIs while Brel Yobech went 2-for-3 with two runs, and two RBIs. Gayvan Uchau, 1-for-3 scored twice and had two RBIs.

Braves 19, Hustlers II 4

Haimi Blas pitched three no-hit innings to lead the AA Ent./TCC World Braves of Tanapag to a 19-4 demolition of Hustlers II.

Frankie Lieto pitched one inning in relief, gave up all the Hustlers II’s earned runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walk.

Hustlers II first baseman Deffery Santos, with one out, had his first career grand slam when he homered off Lieto in the fourth inning to let Payton Lizama, Jonathan Villagomez, and James Kintaro, who all singled, reach home.

Ricky Joe Rengiil continued with his hitting streak, going 4-for-4 at the plate with two runs, a triple, and five runs. He had a bases-clearing triple in the second and a two-RBI single in the fourth.

Lieto went 2-for-3 with four runs, a double, and two RBIs, while Nick Junior Jones and Lucio Kalen combined for 4-for-4 and five runs. Jones also had a triple while Kalen had an RBI single.

In the first game, the UMDA Hustlers I won by default against Dare JPO of Rep. Diego T. Benavente.
