Norita happy with administration, Legislature’s support
Department of Public Safety Commissioner Claudio Norita said he is very happy with the support given him by the administration and the Legislature.
Norita said being sworn in as commissioner was the final step in the process of him officially becoming the DPS chief.
In an interview with Saipan Tribune shortly after he was sworn in as DPSC commissioner by associate justice Alexandro Castro Friday morning, Norita said he had already instituted plans of work for the department.
The new commissioner said the Senate’s confirmation has re-affirmed the Fitial administration’s and the Legislature’s support to him and DPS.
“They’re supporting me in the plans that we need to do at DPS,” Norita said.
Acting Gov. Timothy Villagomez said Norita as a retired law enforcer knows what to do at DPS, what needs to be done, and know how it gets done.
“The only advice that I can give him or suggest him is I’m always here to back up his plans,” Villagomez said.
The acting governor said the new commissioner opted to have his swearing in Friday or the time where there were five proclamations have been dedicated for the law enforcement of the CNMI.
“I think that was really a nice gesture in his part to have his swearing in to coincide with the proclamation signings.
It’s a family event. He wanted to make sure that every member of law enforcement not only DPS but other divisions in law enforcement are present today,” he said.
