We applaud the majority of the 16th Legislature who heard our letter of concern last Friday lobbying opposition to the granting of special privileges of long-term guest workers here in our homeland. Most importantly, we are glad that the bill itself was not even entertained. The people of the Commonwealth, especially the local indigenous Northern Mariana Descent people of the landm must understand that TAOTAO pursuit on this matter is of great importance to the future generations and ones own self-interest of garnering additional votes is of great insult, disrespect and total disgrace to their constituents. TAOTAO TANO will continue to monitor our legislative body’s movement on this long-term guest worker issue, for such an issue must never take place.

In addition we want to also address the newly formed United Coalition of Guest worker group, led by Mrs. Irene Tantiado, Jerry Custodio, Simong Sin, and Ronnie Docca that their quest for “improved immigration status” here in our homeland is moot. A majority of the guest workers here in our homeland continue there issue of unfairness and injustices but they seemed to ignore the fact that their status improved the minute they set foot in our homeland otherwise they wouldn’t have lived here 10, 15, 20 or 27 years.

The federal issue here in our homeland has been an ordeal, and we believe that we all have been oppressed at different angles on the issue and TAOTAO TANO firmly believes that it is nothing other than NATIONAL SECURITY with the military buildup from Okinawa to Guam. It is time that we prepare and embrace the reality and let us all move forward to a better Commonwealth.

TAOTAO TANO is looking forward in discussing issues with the federal government to get the much0needed assistance from our troubled power plant to everything else affecting our general well being here in our homeland. TAOTAO TANO also believes that by working closely with the federal government and understanding them we will be able to negotiate the long-overdue higher standard of living as true American citizens in this great Commonwealth.

We are sure that the next Commonwealth address which will take place next month will end up with the government being broke for the third year with no chance of recovery including more empty promises and no light at the end of the tunnel.
