Church CCD raises fund in Shell carwash

The Santa Remedios Church Confraternity of Christian Doctrine ministry, which provides religious education programs to young Catholics, participated in Shell Marianas’ Suds for Funds car wash on Apr. 19.

The CCD ministry joined to raise money for sash and certificates to be given to students scheduled to receive the sacrament of Confirmation.

“It was fun. We did not make much but it was definitely fun,” Tammy Santos, the spokesperson for the group, said.

She said 28 students from different public and private schools living in Tanapag, a village that is part of the Santa Remedios parish, were scheduled to receive Confirmation on a still to be determined date in May or June.

“We are going to use the money that we were able to raise at the Shell Suds for Funds to buy sash, certificates and other needed materials for the Confirmation,” Santos said.

Santos said six students participated in the Suds for Funds. She said they plan to hold similar fundraisers as the Confirmation draws near.

The Shell Suds for Funds car wash event is a fundraiser organized by Shell Marianas, Coca-Cola Beverage Co. (Micronesia) Inc., and Glimpses Advertising for the benefit of non-profit organizations. Glimpses coordinates and publicizes the event; Shell provides the cleaning water, soap, sponges, buckets and tent; Coca-Cola supplies free beverage for participants.

“We’re very grateful to Shell, Coca-Cola and Glimpses for organizing this kind of fundraiser,” Santos said.

Shell Marianas, Coca-Cola and Glimpses Advertising have been holding the Shell Suds for Funds car wash event every third Saturday of the month since October 2003. This has benefited approximately 50 different civic and non-profit groups.

A regular Shell Suds for Funds event is held every Saturday at any Shell service station. Interested groups need to coordinate with the station managers, and bring their own refreshment and cleaning supplies except for the water for washing, which is provided by the station.

A special Shell Suds for Funds car wash is held every third or fourth Saturday of the month where a beneficiary is featured in Beach Road Magazine and provided with cleaning supplies and refreshments by Shell Marianas and Coca-Cola, respectively.
