‘More Rota charter flights are coming’
After the first three charter flights scheduled during Japan’s Golden Week, more are expected to fly to Rota in the next few months, according to Pacific Development, Inc. president Yoichi Matsumura.
The PDI executive said that aside from the April 27 inaugural Rota charter flight and the April 30 and May 4 services, a charter flight to the CNMI’s southernmost chain has been confirmed for the end of June and among the passengers in this flight is the screening committee for the Rota Blue Triathlon.
“About 60 young Japanese executives composing the first leg of screening are already booked in the June flight.”
The months of July, August, September, and October will prove to be the busiest in terms of charter flights to Rota as Matsumura said that 18 charter flights are scheduled during this period.
In related news, Matsumura clarified that passengers arriving in the charter flights this April and May will stay on Rota between four to five days.
Matsumura, whose company is operating the charters brought in by Continental Airlines, said that tourists aboard the inaugural flight on April 27 will stay on the islands for—four days and three nights.
Meanwhile, the charters that will arrive on April 30 and May 4 will spend five days and four nights on Rota.
The PDI official earlier said that he will fly to Rota during the weekend along with his staff that includes general managers Masanori Takahashi and Gordon Marciano, assistant general managers Takeshi Okawa (for group and package division) and Maho Miyakoshi (for customer service division).
KNT Kinki Nippon Tourist, PDI’s parent company, announced last February that it will bring in 40 new charter flights to Rota in the next couple of years.
The Rota charter flight are expected to bring in some 8,000 tourists to Rota in about a year. KNT has chartered Continental Airlines to bring in the new Rota flights. Continental Airlines is planning to use its 155-seater Boeing 737 aircraft to service the island.
