15th Silver Streak set for June 14

The Silver Streak, the fun run that memorializes the late president of DFS Galleria Saipan, returns this June 14.
According to DFS Galleria Saipan associate store manager Wolf Mojica the 15th Annual Tom Picarro Memorial Fun Run will have a start time of 6am following a 5am to 5:55am registration time.
“It is that time of the year again when we begin to plan for the 15th Annual Silver Streak. The fun run memorializes our former president Tom Picarro, who served from 1979 to 1992. He used to run along Beach Road waving to passers by. He had a great head of white hair and that is where we got the name Silver Streak,” he said.
Wolf said prizes will be awarded to the top male and female finishers as well as first, second, and third place in eight age groups. The fun run will start at the DFS Galleria Saipan’s main entrance along Beach Road.
The DFS Galleria Saipan executive added that entry fee is $10 and registration forms are available at the DFS Galleria Customer Information Counter and payments can be made Monday through Friday, 8am-12pm and 1pm-5pm at the finance office.
While proceeds from the Silver Streak will go to a local charity, DFS Galleria Saipan will still give away T-shirts and tank tops for the first 175 finishers. Drinks, water, and fruits will also be provided to participants.

Last year, 130 runners between the ages of one and 77 years old took part in the Silver Streak.
Track star Nate Mateo and Mamiko Oshima were the most fleet afoot on as the duo captured the men’s and women’s title with respective times of 26:46 and 28:58.
Among the top males were age division winners Andrew Kimball (5-10), Mathew Mancao (11-20), Jerson Villamor (21-30), Tamio Nishikido (31-40), Sathiya Kalarikkal (41-50), Chang Whan Jang (51-60), Bruce MacMillan (61-70), and ageless wonder John Joyner of the 71-and-over category.
The fastest women age groupers were youngster Soleil Lamar (5-10), Melissa Halaby (11-20), former PIC Clubmate Mieko Carey (21-30), triathlete Kimiko Hasegawa (31-40), Irma Halaby (41-50), the unstoppable Monica Yamaguchi (51-60), Aenaida Tydingco (61-70), and Donna White (71-Over).
