The CNMI government has moved for the deportation of three of the 12 persons who were arrested during last weekend’s crackdown on illegal taxi operators on Saipan.

The Division of Immigration, through assistant attorney general Kevin Lynch, filed yesterday separate deportation cases against Guanghua Wu, Hu Li, and Xiao Jun Cao.

Wu, Li, nd Cao, all male Chinese, were taken to the Superior Court yesterday morning for a bail hearing.

Associate Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a $1,000 unsecured bond for the temporary lease of each defendants and ordered them to appear in court on May 1, 2008, at 1:30pm to explain why they should not be deported.

Immigration Inspector Joseph R. Palacios and Immigration Investigator John Peter stated in court documents that Wu and Li have overstayed in the CNMI for over seven months, while Cao has overstayed by over a year and three months.

Wu and Cao were among 12 Chinese persons arrested in Garapan during a crackdown on suspected illegal taxicabs.

According to the Immigration officers, Wu and Cao were among the drivers of suspected illegal taxis that were observed picking up and dropping off passengers.

Wu and Cao were subsequently released from detention after posting bail but on Monday afternoon, Immigration agents again arrested the two in Susupe after verifying that they are overstaying aliens.

Labor and Immigration records indicate that Wu’s nonresident worker’s entry permit expired on Sept. 11, 2007, while Cao’s permit expired on Dec. 1, 2006.

Wu used to work as a sewing machine operator at Michigan Inc., then became a storekeeper.

Cao previously worked as a farmer. He became a commercial cleaner for Success Corp. and as waiter for Xing Wang Development Corp.

With respect to Li, Immigration said that the respondent was a passenger of a vehicle whose driver was arrested for allegedly operating an illegal taxi.

Li’s nonresident worker’s entry permit expired on Aug. 25, 2007. He used to work as a cutter and machine operator for garment manufacturers Hansae Saipan Inc. and Kyung Seung Saipan Inc. He was then employed as a cutter for garment manufacturer Rifu Apparel Corp.
