“We have no choice but to vote responsibly’
I am puzzled why I feel very bad about the closing of the only movie house on island. I admit I do not go to the movies that often. So why do I feel bad about its closure?
I thought long and hard about it. I guess it’s because somehow it really represents just how deep our problems are, especially the economy.
Is there anything that we can do to turn our economy around? Yes! And it’s within our means. Yes! It is within each of us. It is very clear that changes are needed everywhere.
We can bring to change our conditions by voting responsibly. It’s simple. It cannot be denied that several of the elected officials are only interested in getting re-elected. Look at the power rate issue and you will see clearly what voting irresponsibly can do. Are we better off now than before the last election?
We must vote for people who have proven track record. We must vote for someone who is not afraid of not being re-elected. We must vote for people who are honest, can be counted and puts the community’s interest ahead of individuals including himself or herself. Let’s face facts. There are several members of the current Legislature that being out office will essentially make them unemployed because to begin with, they have no profession. Nothing to fall back on. Remaining in office is therefore a livelihood, employment.
Do we need this type of individual to lead us? Can we expect quality leadership from them? So far the answer is no.
Election is very near. We need to change our thinking if we are to come out of our current dire conditions. We have no choice but to vote responsibly. We simply do not have any options anymore. Plus, voting responsibly will assure a successful turn around.
There are plenty of examples around on how damaging it is to elect candidates that do not qualify or who see the office as an employment.
Voting responsibly is within us. It is within our means. We cannot afford not to do it.
