Managaha selected No. 1 snorkeling spot
Managaha Island has been selected as the “Best Beach & Snorkeling Spot” at the 7th Dive & Travel Awards 2008, held during the Marine Diving Fair in Tokyo, Japan. This is the fourth year that Managaha has received this honor.
The recognition drove many visitors to the CNMI’s booth at the fair. As part of the booth’s excitement, the Marianas Quiz was played, with the winner receiving a round trip ticket to the CNMI from Japan, compliments of Northwest Airlines.
Hitoshi Yamaguchi of NMDOA and Marianas Visitors Authority Japan representatives Nanako Shibuya, Wataru Takaku, and Akira Takatsu participated in the fair. A life-size Saipan-da made an appearance during the event.
A total of 51,236 people attended the event, which was an increase over the shows attendance in 2007. Of the shows attendees, 80.8 percent were divers and 19.2 percent were interested in resort destinations.
“Diving continues to be a sport that draws tourists to our islands,” said MVA managing director Perry Tenorio. “Showcasing our islands at a dive specific show should continue to increase in the underwater world in the CNMI.” (MVA)
