Falig homer lifts Braves past Twins
B.J. Falig homered in the first inning to lift the Tanapag Braves to a 15-1 win over the As Matuis Twins in their game in the Majors division of the Saipan Little League yesterday at the Miguel Basa “Tan Ge” Pangelinan Field.
The Tanapag Braves took more than two hours to silence the Wells Fargo-sponsored Twins.
Falig went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and four RBIs. He blasted a three-run home run in the Twins’ six-run first inning scoring spree.
Frankie Lieto pitched two shutout innings in relief to help the AA Enterprises- and TCC World-supported Twins notch its fifth win in nine game, while the Twins dropped to 4-6 with the loss.
Lieto relieved Roy Tudela in the top of the third and nearly gave the Twins a chance to come back into the game.
After getting the quick two outs after striking out Alex Litulumar and forcing Roke Tenorio to fly out to center fielder B.J. Falig, Lieto gave up back-to-back singles to Ian Lizama and Ton Camacho then walked Roberty Tudela to load up the bases.
Lieto then forced M.J. Sakisat to a grounder to third baseman Haime Blas, who grabbed the ball and stepped on the bag for a force out that allowed them to escape a bases-loaded jam to end the inning.
Lieto then snuffed out the Twins chances to score in the bottom of the fourth. He stranded runner Darion Jones, who walked, at first base when he forced Charles Cangco to an infield fly to second baseman Lucio Kalen for the first out then struck out Jason Camacho on three pitches.
Alex Litulumar then was caught looking for the third strike and the third out that ended the game.
Roy Tudela started for the Braves, giving up one earned run on two one-hit innings with four strikeouts and two walks.
Falig got plenty of support from Ricky Joe Rengill and Nick Junior Jones who both went 3-for-3 with six runs and two doubles. Rengiil also had three stolen bases and one RBI while Jones had two RBIs.
Kalen went 2-for-2 with three runs and an RBI, while J.J. Lifoifoi went 2-for-3 with one run and had two RBIs.
Lefty pitcher Jones scored the Twins’ lone run on an error by the Braves in the second inning.
