Guam Army Guard soldier is wounded

A soldier of the Guam Army National Guard was wounded in Afghanistan yesterday.

Private Joseph Miner was shot through the right arm while performing a security patrol. The soldier is in a hospital and is doing well and remains in good spirits.

Miner, who is with the Alpha Company, 1/294th Infantry Battalion (L), Guam Army National Guard, was presented yesterday with the Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge in Afghanistan by Maj. Gen. Jeffrey J. Schloesser, 101st Division commander. The soldier is deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

“On behalf of the members of the Guam National Guard, both Army and Air, we would like to share our thoughts and prayers with him and his family, and we pray for a quick and full recovery,” said Maj. Gen. Donald J. Goldhorn, the Adjutant General, Guam National Guard.
