The Marianas Apnea Spearfishing Club will hold an organizational meeting for the upcoming 2nd Annual Spearfishing Tournament at 7pm tomorrow, April 17, at the 13 Fishermen’s Pavilion.

MASC president Morito Asai and his vice president Felix Sasamoto said they are inviting all spearfishing enthusiasts to attend the meeting. The two said the 2nd Annual Spearfishing Tournament is scheduled for May 2008.

Last year, John Starmer won the Biggest Fish category after he and his crew caught a 5.4-lb Spadefish.

Starmer and his crew took home a handsome championship trophy, an Omer Excalibur 3000 spear gun, and a $100 gift certificate.

Scott Russel and Peter Houk, meanwhile, won the total weight and total fish categories with their haul of 44.58 lbs that constitutes 24 pieces.

The Biggest Parrotfish was awarded to Russel (3.52 lbs), the Biggest Rudderfish award belonged Houk (4.38 lbs), while the Biggest Emperor and Biggest Goatfish were bagged by Cris Sasamoto (3.72 lbs) and Mark Hapdei (1.4 lbs), respectively.

A total of 13 teams (26 divers) and nine boats took part in the Inaugural Spearfishing Tournament, which was held last May 11.
