DCCA shows dominating form
Back-to-back women’s champion Department of Community and Cultural Affairs showed its dominating form last Friday night as four of its players collected seven of the nine individual awards in the recently concluded Inter-government Softball League season.
Leading the DCCA charge is finals most valuable player Nadia Tagabuel, who was instrumental in their team’s sixth-inning comeback in Game 2 to wrap up the best-of-three title series against the Northern Marianas College-Proa.
Tagabuel blasted a three-run, inside-the-park home run in Game 2 to help DCCA repeat as the women’s division champion. DCCA used an eight-run bottom of the sixth scoring spree to score a come-from-behind 13-10 win over NMC-Proa. DCCA was down 10-5 after 5 1/2 innings before Tagabuel’s heroics.
DCCA won Game 1 earlier in the day, 18-14, to complete the shutout win and their title defense.
Tagabuel’s teammates, Doris Rangamar, Jovie Omar, and Bert Camacho also won individual trophies.
Rangamar had the most doubles the whole season with 34, while adding the triples trophy with seven. Omar won the doubles category with eight and had the most strikeouts with 32 while Camacho scored the most runs with 27.
Other members of DCCA team are Evita Maratita, Nadia Saralu, Arlene Likisap, Benny Mettao, Ruth Sakisat, Abby Atalig, and Lorna Iginoef.
NMC’s Lilian Aguon earned the home run title after blasting a total of eight dingers, while Dolorina Panuelo of the Commonwealth Health Center earned the pitching crown with an 8.72 ERA.
