The NMI Council for the Humanities invites the public to attend a lecture by World War II veteran Ray “Hap” Halloran titled “Time Heals Everything…Almost” at the Visitors Center Theater, American Memorial Park, Friday, April 18, at 6:30pm.

Halloran will discuss his experiences as a crewmember of Rover Boys Express, a Saipan-based B-29 bomber during World War II.

“Time Heals Everything” will cover combat missions Halloran flew from Isley Field (now Saipan International Airport), the destruction of his plane over Tokyo in January 1945, and the subsequent eight months he spent as a POW in Japan.

The lecture will also describe Halloran’s return to Japan in 1984, during which he visited many Japanese cities, and his emotional meeting the following year with the Japanese pilot who had shot down Halloran’s plane 40 years earlier.

It was through these visits that Halloran was able to reconcile with his former enemies and bring closure (almost) to a traumatic period in his life.

The lecture is open to the public and free of charge. Interested individuals are invited to contact Council staff at telephone 235-4785 for additional details. (PR)
