Cruz cruises to Bing April championship
Zack Cruz demolished the opposition Sunday en route to winning his very first Bing Prince/Princess of the Lanes Tenpin Bowling Tournament at the Capital Bowling Center.
Cruz, a perennial runner-up the past couple of years, this time made sure the April crown was his after knocking down 186 and 191 pins in his first two games.
He was just getting started though, as Cruz smacked 223 and 214 pins in his final two games to finish with a four-game total of 814 pinfalls (203.5 average), which was a whooping 143 pins ahead of his closest pursuer.
Back-to-back monthly champion Raphael Zapanta was a far second after his rolls of 159, 185, 180, and 157 were only good enough for a 671 total and a 167.75 average.
Jamie Vales came in third with her 646 total and 161.5 average, built around a four-game series of 171 ,128, 178, and 169.
Cruz, Zapanta, and Vales earned $20, $15, and $10, respectively, for their performances Sunday. Cruz also received a case of Selecta Ice Cream from Micronesian Brokers Inc. for topping the youth competition.
Mayanne McKenzie (611 total), Ryan Gutierrez (608), Marion McKenzie (523), Troy Verdaguer (439), Nikko Gutierrez (399), Toby Gutierrez (237), and Marcel McKenzie (226) also took part in the monthly bowling tournament for youth bowlers 12 to 19 years old.
In the Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes, Manuel Castro leads the men’s roll-off with a first day score of 830 (207.5 average), while Gigi Zapanta is pacing the women with her 722 and 180.5.
Results of Day 2 of the two-day King and Queen of the Lanes were still not available as of press time.
The Bing Prince/Princess of the Lanes as well as the Budweiser King and Queen of the Lanes are sponsored by MARPAC.
