The Division of Immigration has sought the deportation of a researcher for the Yap State Department of Education and State of Academy for Culture.

According to Immigration investigator Nicolas T. Reyes, Mr. AhYu Win, also known as Thet Paing Win, a citizen of the Union of Myanmar working for Yap State, has failed to comply with the terms of his entry and is therefore a deportable alien pursuant to Commonwealth law and regulations.

Reyes stated in court documents that Win did not submit any tourist extension application to the Division of Immigration’s Processing Section.

Following the filing of the case, Superior Court associate judge David A. Wiseman ordered respondent Win to appear in court on May 29 at 1:30pm and explain why he should not be deported from the CNMI.

The respondent entered on Jan. 30, 2008, under short term tourist. He was authorized by Immigration to stay until Feb. 29, 2008.

Reyes said Win was issued a Visitor’s Entry Permit.

Reyes said to support the respondent’s entry into the CNMI, Dr. Michael F. Caldwell from Yap Academy for Culture and Education wrote a letter to Immigration about Win, their researcher.

In the letter, Caldwell said Win will come to Saipan for about two to three weeks to research the history of the Japanese occupation period in the Federated States of Micronesia.

The researcher, however, did not leave CNMI since his arrival here, according to Immigration records.
