Rotating outages, engine repair continue

Engine repair continues at the Commonwealth Utilities Corp.’s Power Plant 1.

CUC said that Engine No. 6 was shut down yesterday for the mechanical staff to perform necessary repairs.

“As a result of these repairs, the power plant will not be capable to generate the required electrical power to adequately meet the island’s demand. Therefore, load shedding is required,” the utility said.

While these repairs continue, rotating power outages will continue. Traffic lights, water and wastewater services in the respective areas will also be affected.

This schedule assumes that no further generator malfunctions occur during these emergency repairs. Should the Second Partial outages be insufficient to stabilize generation capacity, the First Partial and additional feeders may also be affected. Once Engine No. 6 is brought back on line, outages will be canceled as soon as practical.
