The NMI Council for the Humanities is inviting the public to attend a free lecture by Native American author Georgia Perez, titled “Listen to Your Dreams and Follow Your Heart,” tomorrow, April 9, 6:30pm, at the Visitors’ Center Theater of the American Memorial Park.

Perez, of Nambe Pueblo, New Mexico, is the author of the acclaimed Eagle Books, a series of four beautifully-illustrated children’s books commissioned by the Centers for Disease Control in Atlanta, Georgia.

The Eagle Books are brought to life by wise animal characters, Mr. Eagle and Miss Rabbit, and a clever trickster, Coyote, who engage Rain that Dances and his young friends in the joy of physical activity, eating healthy foods, and learning from their elders about health and diabetes prevention.

The inspiration to write the books came to Perez in a series of dreams that took some time for her to interpret. The eagle, which played a prominent role in these dreams, became one of the principal characters in her books.

Perez will discuss her experiences as an author and the role that dreams play in revealing important messages and resolving problems.

The lecture is the second in the Council’s recently-established series featuring prominent authors and their works. (PR)
