Rock Steady used a six-run scoring rally in the fifth as enough breathing room to coast to a 16-3 win over the San Roque D9ers in last Friday’s game in the 3rd Annual Budweiser-Saipan Major League at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

Tim Mafnas lasted for five innings, giving up two earned runs on five hits while striking out seven batters and walking two more to help Rock Steady win its fifth straight game, while dealing D9ers their second loss in four matches.

The win allowed Rock Steady to enjoy a two-game lead over defending champion Tanapag Falcons, which is also undefeated after three games. The Korean Dreams are in third with a 3-1 card followed by the Ford Rangers’ 2-1 slate. The loss dropped the D9ers to fifth place.

Kabur has yet to win a game after three matches, while Komoro and the struggling Tigers, which played in the finals against the Falcons last year, are at the cellar with similar 0-4 records.

Jonathan Camacho pitched two shutout innings in relief allowing three hits with two strikeouts, and one walk.

The two also held the D9ers to a combined 9-for-30 in batting, while the Rock Steady offense was in full swing with their 17-for-38 tally.

Lead-off batter Tyrone Omar, who also holds the CNMI National record in the 100m dash, started off the Rock Steady hit parade going 2-for-3 with a run scored, a double, one stolen base, and two RBIs.

Dane Lizama went 2-for-4 with two runs, two stolen bases, and two RBIs, while veteran sluggers Tony Celis and Manny Sablan combined for 4-for-9 and three runs. Celis also had a stolen base while Sablan had a double.

Byron Kaipat went 2-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs, while Roy Celis and Martin Pangelinan combined for 4-for-10 with three runs. Celis also had a double while Pangelinan had two stolen bases and one RBI.

Nick San Nicolas showed he is not only good in pitching but in batting as well, going 2-for-5 with a triple and five RBIs. He had a two-RBI single in Rock Steady’s six-run fifth inning rally.

Kabur was playing against Komoro at press time, while the Falcons fared the D9ers in a battle between Saipan’s northernmost teams.
