Camacho, Dolphins drown Jets in Senior League
Tomas Camacho pitched a complete game as the PTI Dolphins scored a 6-3 triumph over the Juan S. Tenorio-Pacific Amusement Jets in the Senior League of the Saipan Little League on Saturday at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.
Camacho gave up two earned runs on five hits with no strikeouts and three walks as he allowed the Dolphins to hit grounders, fly balls, and line drives.
He even pitched four scoreless innings but his bid for a shutout ended in the fifth inning when Marvin Kaipat, with one out, scored the Jets’ first run on an error.
Camacho walked Juan Iguel then John Pangelinan flied out to left field for the second out. A Dave Camacho triple allowed Iguel to score the Jets’ second run.
Dave Camacho, however, was tagged out at home on a 6-2 putout play on an Ike Aldan fielder’s choice to end the inning.
Ofero Taitano went 3-for-4 with a triple, a run and two RBIs, while Jonathan Celis went perfect, 2-for-2, with two singles and one run to lead the Dolphins’ batting.
In other Senior League games, The Dolphins scored back-to-back wins against the Fielders, 12-7, on March 24, and the Lion Kings, 11-3, on March 22.
The Jets blanked the Fielders, 10-0, on March 16, while the Dolphins scored a 15-0 shutout against D9ers on March 15.
JUNIOR LEAGUE
Lion Hearts 6, Ol’Aces 4
Ricardo Dela Cruz pitched 2 1/2 one-hit innings in relief to lead the Kagman Lion Hearts to a 6-4 win over the UMDA Ol’Aces. He also had four strikeouts and one walk.
Dela Cruz foiled Ol’Aces’ comeback bid in the top of the seventh when he allowed Kevin Yamada to ground out while Caleb Arriola and Jacob Flores to fly out.
In other matches, the Fielders edged Ol’Aces on March 25, 18-17; the Jets scored consecutive wins over the Fielders on March 24, 20-10, and the Lion Hearts on March 22, 9-4; while the Jets dumped Ol’Aces on March 16, 14-2. The Lion Hearts also scored a 3-1 decision over the Fielders on March 15.
BIG LEAGUE
Hustlers 5, Aztecs 4
Joel Satur tripled to allow Mario Lisua score the winning run as the Hustlers of manager Tony Celis escaped with a 5-4 win over the Jack Reyes-mentored UMDA Aztecs.
Tied after 6 1/2 innings, Lawrence Dikito hit Mario Lisua by a pitch then forced Luis Arriola to fly out at center field for the first out but could not keep Satur from hitting an RBI triple that ended the game.
Satur went 2-for-4 with one run, a triple, and an RBI. John Mafnas pitched a complete game with seven hits, three earned runs, four strikeouts, and no walks.
Dikito went 2-for-3 with one run, while Sisior Techur went 2-for-3 with a run and a triple for the Aztecs.
In other games, the Jets cruised to a 12-2 win over the Dolphins on March 29 but lost to the Aztecs, 4-5, on March 24. They also scored an 11-4 win over the Falcons on March 22.
The Aztecs, meanwhile, won by default against the Hustlers on March 18 after the latter didn’t have enough players to suit up for the game.
On March 16, Nicolas San Nicolas pitched the season’s first no hitter and shutout when the Aztecs crushed the Dolphins, 11-0. San Nicolas pitched five innings with no hits, 11 strikeouts, and no walks.
The Hustlers grounded the Jets on March 15, 11-5, while the Jets scored a 6-5 win over the Aztecs on March 8.
