MBA opens title bid vs SIS in PSL caging
Reigning high school boys champion Marianas Baptist Academy Stormz will open up its title-retention bid against the Saipan International School Geckos at the start of the 2008 basketball season of the Private Schools League.
The Stormz will visit the Geckos at their As Lito campus today, April 1, at 3:30pm in the first half of the season, from April 1 to 15, where the boys will open every game, while the second half, from April 17 to May 2, the girls will play first.
The Stormz, which finished the regular season last year with a 5-4 slate, scored a 57-53 upset win over the Mt. Carmel School Knights, which was undefeated in the elimination round.
The Calvary Christian Academy Sharks will face the Knights at the CCA court in the other game. The Grace Christian Academy Eagles is the other team in the boys division.
In the girls side, the SIS Lady Eagles will visit the GCA Lady Eagles on Thursday, April 3, to start its bid for a third straight title. They take the court after their boys teams collide at 3:30pm.
The Lady Geckos, last year, successfully completed its back-to-back title season with a 44-31 triumph over the Lady Knights.
MBA will host the Knights on the same day in a rematch of last year’s finals.
On Friday, April 4, the Lady Knights will battle the Lady Eagles at Mt. Carmel School in the lone girls match.
The competing teams in the boys division are SIS, GCA, MCS, CCA, and MBA, while the girls are composed of SIS, GCA, and MCS.
Games in the high school division will be played every Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. A 10-minute warm up, which is only applicable to schools with boys and girls teams, will be given to both teams in between games.
A coaches meeting is also scheduled on May 5, Monday, at 4:30pm with the venue to be announced at a later date.
