Frank M. Deleon Guerrero won first place again at the 4th annual Cook A Rainbow Challenge held yesterday at the Sabalu Market in Susupe.

Deleon Guerrero’s steamed fish with special taro sauce wowed judges and bested other eight participants.

All dishes were judged on taste, creative presentation, texture, use of fresh local ingredients and originality.

Glen Santos’ Fish Escabeche took second place while Ivan Gatbonton won third place with his steamed fish.

The Cook A Rainbow Challenge – Cooking from our Reefs is held in conjunction with CNMI Nutrition Month and DEQ’s Environmental Awareness Month. As 2008 is the Year of the Reef, the cooking participants were tasked to use a reef fish in addition to the “rainbow” of fruits and/or vegetables.

The contest was open to nonprofessionals who members of the community with no association to a restaurant or food service establishment.

The Cook A Rainbow Challenge is coordinated by the Ayuda Network, CNMI Diabetes Prevention and Control Program, NMC-CREES, PSS-Headstart, Division of Environmental Quality, PSS-Food and Nutrition Service, DPH-Breast and Cervical Cancer Program and the Commonwealth Cancer Association.
