Although the two engines at Power Plants 2 and 4 have been repaired, the repairs on Engine No. 5 at Power Plant 1 continue.

Power Plant 1 mechanics have been working on liner and exhaust valves on cylinder No. 1, along with other components from the unit. During this process, inspections to other areas of the engine were being performed to determine any additional problems.

As of yesterday afternoon, three other cylinders have been identified as having damaged exhaust valves, and will require repair. It is anticipated that due to the additional repairs involved, this engine will not be completed today as previously scheduled.

As a result, Power Plant 1 will not be capable to generate the required electrical power to adequately meet island demand; therefore, load shedding is required.

As soon as CUC is capable to provide sufficient electrical generation to meet the island demand, the rotating outages will no longer be required. This assumes that no additional engine problems occur during this emergency repair and may be altered as required by the CUC. (CUC)
