The coral reef internship application has been extended to March 31, 2008.

The internship is available to post secondary students and will be placed at the Division of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) and the Coastal Resources Management Office (CRMO), in Saipan, in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

“We’ve received a couple of inquiries from applicants from various countries so we want to clarify that preference will be given to students with a long-term interest in working in the CNMI,” said Reina Camacho, internship coordinator.

Camacho added that only eight positions are available for education/outreach, watershed, marine monitoring, fisheries management and marine conservation; and all applicants must submit the 4 required documents on or before the deadline in order to be considered.

Interns will develop and complete a project in marine resource management in addition to participating in ongoing activities at the host agency. Interns Salary will be $7 per hour for approximately 25 hours per week. Interns will be responsible for providing their own housing and transportation.

The available positions are posted at http://www.deq.gov.mp/article.aspx?secID=12&artID=136

The internship shall take place June through August, but actual dates and hours worked will vary according to availability. For more information, contact Reina Camacho at (670) 664-8522. (CoCo)
