Kensuke Kimura may have failed to break into the Top 20 of the boys’ 11-12 division of the 2008 Tokyo Junior Sprint Swim Meet, but the Swimming Center Tsunami Saipan standout got invaluable experience being one of the 3,404 swimmers that took part in the competition held from March 15 to 16 at the Tatsumi International Swimming Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.

He did impress before coming back to Saipan though, finishing 21st out of 103 in his age group. Kimura also broke his personal best time in the 50m breastroke, touching the tile in 40.37.

Kimura was joined in the Tokyo trip by his father and Tsunami Saipan head coach Hiro Kimura.

The younger Kimura qualified to the 2008 Tokyo Junior Sprint Swim Meet after meeting rigid qualifying times during the Saipan International Meet held last Feb. 29 and March 1 at the Kan Pacific Swimming Pool in Marpi.

Kensuke swam the 50m breaststroke in 41.55 seconds. The minimum qualifying time for an 11-year-old boy’s entry for the prestigious Tokyo meet was 41.70 seconds.

After the 2008 Tokyo Junior Sprint Swim Meet, coach Hiro is setting his sights on the upcoming Junior Olympics where he is expected to take Kensuke and Tsunami Saipan’s No. 1 swimmer, Rezne Wong. Wong didn’t make the Tokyo trip since he was already 16 years and already over-aged for the 15-and-under competition.
