The PTI Dolphins celebrated Commonwealth Day yesterday with a 12-7 win over the Fielders in Senior League action in the Saipan Little League at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.

The Dolphins used an eight-run first-inning scoring spree then relied on the steady pitching of Anthony Rogolifoi and Jonathan Tydingco to secure the win.

Holding a 3-0 lead, with two outs and two runners on base in the first inning, the Dolphins made it 5-0 on John Paul Lizama’s two-RBI triple. Lizama late scored on a Tomas Camacho single.

Camacho reached home on an Ofero Taitano two-run home run for an 8-0 count.

The Dolphins made it 10-0 after 4 1/2 innings but the Fielders scored six times in the bottom of the fourth to close in.

It turned out it was the best that they could do as Rogolifoi and Tydingco alternated on the mound in holding off the Fielders’ late surge. Rogolifoi and Tydingco combined for nine hits with all runs earned, with four strikeouts, and seven walks.

Taitano went 1-for-2 with two runs, a home run, and two RBIs, while Lizama went 2-for-3 with one run, a triple, and two RBIs.
