Nono Bostre best in March
Nono Bostre won the March Ace of the Month Tournament of Fil-Taga Golf Association last Sunday, March 16, at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort east course.
This after Bostre shot net 69, which tied him with February winner and Senate President Pete P. Reyes on top of the leaderboard.
And since Reyes already won last month, the March championship was automatically handed to Bostre as Fil-Taga rules state that monthly winners can only win once during a 12-month cycle.
Bostre got to the top after his 30 handicap helped him trim the monster 99 gross he shot last weekend at the Kagman golf venue. Reyes, meanwhile, had a better day on the greens with a gross of 80 that went well with his 11 handicap.
Freddie Cataluna closed out the Top 3 with his net 70—built around a gross of 81 and a handicap of 11.
Adony Matutino (net 71), Rey Ferraz (74), James Lin (76), Butch Sigua (76), Fr. Manny Corcuera (78), Nestor Siruelo (78), Leo Ganacias (81), and reigning Golfer of the year Ralph Yumul (83) also took part in the March Ace.
Fil-Taga’s officers are led by president Jun Dela Cruz Jr., vice-president Jhun Calma, secretary Manny Po, and treasurer Guban.
Its board of directors is made up of Fr. Manny Corcuera, Miguel Cruz, Jr., Ted Malaran, Gil Faller, Rey Ferraz, Greg De Torres, Rene Batallones, Nestor Siruelo, and George Sablan
Established in 1993, Fil-Taga’s tournaments operate under a computer-controlled handicap system that creates parity among players in the A and B Flights.
A Fil-Taga Ace of the Month champion is crowned monthly. Regular tournaments are scheduled once a month, normally every third Sunday. Green fees are in the $35 to $40 price range for most tournaments.
