Repair work at power plant results in outages
A radiator problem yesterday at Power Plant 1 required Engine No. 5 to be shut down for the mechanical and electrical staff to perform necessary repairs. The repairs were immediately initiated after the problem was identified early in the morning.
As a result of these repairs, the power plant was not able to generate the required electrical power to adequately meet island demand, requiring the implementation of load shedding.
While these repairs continue, CUC said this pre-announced rotating power outage schedule will be followed:
10:00-12:00 Kiya 1: LateralJoeten Dandan Commercial Complex: (CUC, Joeten Grocery, PHI Pharmacy, CNMI Revenue & Tax, Department of Public Lands, Zoning Board) Kannat Tabla and the Stanford Hotel area and the Saipan International Airport
12:00-2:00 Feeder 4: Second PartialMobil Gas Station to Kagman and Papago
2:00-4:00 Kiya 2: Second PartialSan Antonio Village, Afetnas, Koblerville, As Gonno, Coral Ocean
4:00-6:00 Kiya 4: Second PartialMount Carmel south to portions of Chalan Kanoa and Chalan Kiya
6:00-8:00 Feeder No. 1: LateralsAnaks Condos, Marina Heights Business Complexes Upper China Town lateral, Upper MIHA lateral
8:00-10:00 Feeder No. 2: Second PartialFishing Base, Garapan south to San Jose Intersection
10:00-11:00 Feeder 7: Entire GridLower Base Industrial area, north to Tanapag, Achugao, San Roque, As Matuis and Marpi
As soon as the CUC is capable to provide the sufficient electrical generation to meet the island demands, this schedule will no longer be required. This schedule assumes that no additional engine problems transpire during this emergency repair. (CUC)
