Acting governor Eloy S. Inos has appointed Audrey Joy Ada as the new representative of public school students on the Board of Education.

Ada, whose term begins immediately, replaces Mary Hocog, who recently graduated from Tinian High School.

The public school student representative is a non-voting board member and the appointment does not require the advice and consent of the Senate. The member’s term is good for the duration of his or her enrollment in a public school.

“The Board of Education plays a vital role in ensuring the best education possible for our students. Gov. [Benigno R.] Fitial and I are confident that you will make a valuable contribution, and we appreciate your willingness to serve and provide input from a student’s point of view,” stated Inos in his appointment letter to Ada.

Ada was endorsed by both Education Commissioner Rita A. Sablan and board chair Marylou S. Ada.

According to the board chair, Audrey Joy Ada is currently a junior at Marianas High School and has a tremendous background in student leadership programs and involvement at her school.

Audrey Joy Ada was described as open-minded, hardworking, responsible, and works well with people. She is also friendly, dependable, possesses a positive attitude, with excellent time management skills.

Audrey Joy Ada completed her elementary education at Garapan Elementary School.

She is active in numerous community activities and had served several capacities in various organizations and groups. Audrey Joy Ada was student council president and vice president last school year 2011-2012.

In school year 2010, she was a Youth Congress senator and was elected as its vice speaker. Audrey Joy Ada is also her sophomore class historian and member of the Chamorro Club and active in NMI American Red Cross initiatives. Ada was team captain in the recent Marianas March Against Cancer.

In summer 2011, Ada worked at the Northern Marianas College Cooperative Research Extension and Education Services as food quality and safety assistant.
