Donavin Ada threw four touchdown passes, while Zander Tkel rushed for 177 yards in leading the Eastern Lightning to a 46-12 win over the Northern Vikings in Week 3 action of the 2014 CFL Youth Football League last Saturday at the CPA Airport Field.

The reigning titlists collected their second straight triumph in the Commonwealth Football League Association-organized competition, which plays with four 12-minute quarters. The Vikings remain winless after two games, while Southern Thunder complete the standings with an even 1-1 record.

Ada went 7-of-14 passing for 162 yards, while also rushing for 19, including a pair of 2-point conversions bridging the second and third quarters.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Lightning’s offense went to work early in the second and slowly reached the Vikings’ end zone.

Ada connected with Matthew Kapileo for a 10-yard strike to open up the scoring for Eastern and midway in the second handed the ball to Tkel, who gifted the Lightning with a 38-yard TD run to make it 12-0.

The Vikings, in between those scoring opportunities by the Dave Ada-coached squad, failed to break through the Lightning defense.

The Eastern offense, meanwhile, was humming like a big well-oiled machine with Ada finding Tkel wide open for a 36-yard TD. The Lightning quarterback made it 20-0 when he ran for the 2-point conversion.

Don Pangelinan, in the Vikings’ possession, got the Northern crew of coach Joe Ocampo on the scoreboard with a 1-yard TD run for a 20-6 tally.

Ada, however, was not yet done, throwing a 48-yard TD pass this time to his cousin Austin Ada in the closing seconds of the second period to give the Lightning a 26-6 cushion entering the halftime break.

Tkel had back-to-back 33-yard TD runs to hike the Eastern lead to 38-6 with Donavin Ada again running for the 2-point conversion in the third period.

Anthony Quitugua scored for the Northern squad with a 22-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, 40-12, for the Vikings’ last score.

Another Ada to Ada play closed out the scoring for the Lightning, as Donavin hooked up a 28-yard TD pass to Austin.

Austin, Kapileo, and Tkel combined for 5 TDs, 6 receptions, and 143 of the 162 total yardage of the Lightning.

Tkel also anchored the Eastern defense with 9 tackles while Kimo Angailen had 7.5 tackles and 1 sack. Ryuta Onuki, Augustine Aguon, and Kermenes Terry Jr. combined for 16 sacks.

Don Pangelinan, Derick Aguon, Mariano Kaipat, and Neldrayton Skera finished with 4, 3, 2.5 and 2 sacks, respectively.

The Lightning dominated the entire match enjoying a 378-122 tally in total offense, passing, and rushing.

Meanwhile, the Lightning will again face the Southern Thunder at 1pm on Saturday in what could be a preview of the championship. (Jon Perez)
