The United Filipino Organization has asked the Philippine Consulate General office to look into the possibility of bringing in an actor or performer to Saipan as additional entertainment for the Filipino community during the 2012 Pistang Pinoy.
UFO president Bong Malasarte said yesterday that their group approached Consul General Medardo Macaraig to see what he can do, given that this might be the lastPistang Pinoy event for the Consulate before it shuts down after Oct. 31.
Pistang Pinoy or Filipino Fiesta is an annual event organized by UFO in celebration of the Philippine Independence Day in June. This year’s festivity is slated for June 10 at the Civic Center grounds in Susupe.
“We are hoping that the Consulate will grant this request for all the Filipinos in the CNMI,” said Malasarte.
He noted that members of the Filipino community are always thrilled to meet Filipino actors or performers and Pistang Pinoy would be the perfect venue to host a popular visitor.
“Our Consul General informed me that he will try his best and see what he can do,” Malasarte said.
He said preparations are now in high gear and will be highlighted by performances and presentations of different Filipino groups. The event will also feature exciting activities, including a singing contest, a cooking competition, and a basketball tournament.
