ACS’ Ou attends Air Force academy visitation experience
Agape Christian School senior Owen Ou went on a weeklong trip to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado after being nominated as part of the Falcon Visitation Experience program. The campus visit was from April 20 to 24 and Ou is expected to be back on Saipan today.
Ou is among the privileged few of more than 50 other senior students from all over the U.S. that were invited by the Academy’s Admissions Office, which selects close to 100 applicants, to consider joining the Air Force.
Ou said joining the Air Force was among his plans after graduation aside from going to college where he was accepted to several universities including University of California Davis, UC Irvin, and Purdue University.
He is also eyeing University of California Berkeley where he plans to major in International Relations focusing on Social Science. He is aiming to have a career in Global Studies and Business Management. The tuition, however, is forcing Ou to take a different path.
“The tuition is a burden for me. Especially, you need to take a $50,000 loan per year during your college career. I also applied at [the U.S. Military Academy] West Point,” said the 18-year-old Ou, who will be graduating with a 3.90 grade point average.
Students get to experience the every day life and aspects of a cadet that includes living in the dormitory, attending classes, participating in cadet activities, cheering at an NCAA Division I game, and other activities the Academy is offering.
Ou’s trip to Colorado is free with the Academy funding it that includes airplane tickets, lodging, meals, and a shuttle from the Denver International Airport to the USAFA campus.
Admissions Advisors and assigned cadets, ready to answer any questions, acted as escorts to all the participants.
