Hotel businesses on island are being encouraged to sponsor the accommodation of off-island artists and performers who will be taking part in the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival.

Gordon Marciano, entertainment committee chair for the annual event, said that several artists and performing groups have expressed interest in participating in the biggest arts event in the CNMI.

Marciano said these artists and performers will be coming from the neighboring island of Guam. Tinian and Rota delegates are also faced with the same challenge, he added.

“These brilliant artists and talented local performers would like to be part of history by having their works of art displayed or present their piece at the event,” said Marciano. “They are willing to pay plane tickets out of their own pockets so the only thing that hinders their participation at the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival is the accommodations.”

The 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival is slated for April 20 to 22 at the Civic Center Park in Susupe.

Free to the public, the festival features a wide selection of artwork from CNMI registered and non-registered artists, traditional or contemporary. It also showcases presentations by local and guest performing groups and musicians and festival food favorites.

“We urge the various hotels on islands to show their solidarity in promoting arts and culture by sponsoring at least an individual or a group from off-island to ensure that they demonstrate their craft to the community through the Flame Tree Arts Festival,” said Marciano.

To sponsor an off-island delegate or for more information, contact Marciano at 287-1195 or the Arts Council at 322-9982 or 83.
