Citigroup helps Guam BBBS launch Mobile Learning Lab

Citigroup Foundation granted $11,400 to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam to launch their first Mobile Learning Lab in Guam.
The Mobile Learning Lab will be integrated with the BBBS Mentoring Program and will be used to support after school and weekend educational programs that focus on completing homework assignments, special projects, as well as improving math and literacy skills.
The Mobile Learning Lab consists of four state-of-the-art laptop computers equipped with software programs and learning aids.
The Mobile Learning Lab extends Citigroup Guam’s support of the BBBS mentoring initiative. In 2006, Citigroup employees volunteered over five hundred mentoring and service hours to the program.
“Educating the next generation is a priority of the Citigroup Foundation and we believe the Mobile Learning Lab project is an innovative way to engage the youth in developing their academic skills,” said Madhu Seshadri, Citigroup Country Officer. He added, “Not only do we expect their academic skills to improve, but we anticipate that they’ll also develop their social skills and self confidence through this program and our employee volunteers.”
Erika Vaughn, executive director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam, said: “The mobile learning lab will be a great asset for our site-based mentoring. The computers provide many more options for the matches, and because it is mobile, we won’t be limited to specific locations. We are very grateful to Citigroup Foundation for funding the project.”
The Mobile Learning Lab will be available weekly to service approximately 195 youth participants ranging from ages 13-16 years old initially in the villages of Mangilao and Dededo. [B][I](PR)
