OFW Support Group to host lunch with Santa
The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration-Overseas Filipino Workers Support Group will gather some of the islands’ Filipino community groups for a lunch with Santa Claus this Christmas Day.
OWWA-OSG founding officer Dang Bernabe led the distribution of invitations to Filipino groups and the Philippine Consulate General for a Christmas gathering at the Garapan Central Park along Middle Road.
The group’s Christmas party will be held on Christmas Day, Dec. 25 at 3pm. Bernabe said the group has already invited Philippine Consul General Wilfred DL. Maximo and Consul Belinda Ante, Philippine Overseas Labor Office Labor Representative Joan Lourdes Lavilla and OWWA welfare officer Leonor Mabagal.
Bernabe said the gathering is an appreciation day for all volunteers and partners who have collaborated with the Support Group’s activities this year. The party will also convene the training participants of POLO’s training courses for the year.
She said Santa Claus would grace the group’s Christmas party as one of the members would dress up as the Christmas icon to add merriment during the celebration. The group will also serenade guests with Christmas carols.
Among the individuals and groups that are invited include: MIFICPA, Bayani Association, and United Filipino Organization, among others.
Bernabe said the group also invited all volunteer groups that have been helping them such as Commonwealth Health Center Volunteers and Hardt Eye Clinic.
The group has been caroling all over the island to raise funds to support its projects such as the ‘Tuloy Aral’ Continuing Education Assistance Program facilitated by OWWA. The Continuing Education Assistance Program is currently offered to children of former OFWs who have not succeeded in their overseas work.
“CNMI has consistently been on the top list of sponsors. Currently, for this school year, CNMI is supporting a total of 82 children in public schools in the Philippines,” said Bernabe.
The group will continue to serenade and provide holiday entertainment to homes every weekend of this month. The group’s caroling is scheduled on Dec. 1, 2, 8, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23.
