Thanksgiving Day was celebrated not once but twice at the Commonwealth Health Center, as the senior managers and officers of the Department of Public Health threw Thanksgiving lunches for their staff two days in a row.

DPH Secretary Joseph Kevin P. Villagomez said all managers served the staff of the hospital last Wednesday and on Thanksgiving Day itself.

He said the luncheon is annually held to give thanks to the support and cooperation of the Public Health office staff throughout the years.

This year’s Thanksgiving lunch was the first time the Public Health officers and managers actually served the food to hospital crew, staff, and their families.

The Thanksgiving lunches on both days were held at the hospital cafeteria.

Last Wednesday, Villagomez said it was a special lunch because his brother, Acting Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez, graced the event.

“The acting governor was here to greet my staff,” he added.

Speaking during the luncheon, the acting governor told the hospital crew that their 24-seven support is highly appreciated by the local government.

On Thursday, DPH also provided free lunch for the staff that worked during the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Villagomez said he needed to reward those who were on duty for the sacrifice they rendered in serving the community even though it was a holiday.

Coastal Resources Management director John Joyner also attended the luncheon last Wednesday. He joined the hospital physicians, nurses, administrators, officers, and other hospital employees for the Thanksgiving lunch.

Nurses from the hospital said they were thankful for the generosity bestowed on them. They said this year the Thanksgiving lunch was even more special because they were surprised to see senior managers and officers serving the food to them.
