14 NMC students inducted to Phi Theta Kappa group
Fourteen Northern Marianas College students were recently inducted to the Beta Lambda Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.
The Fall Induction Ceremony was held last weekend at the Fiesta Resort & Spa Saipan. The inductees were: Roxanne Alvarez, Sandra Lynn Arnold, Linda M. Birminghan, Clifford Cuengco, Joanne M. Daproza, Patricia Jane C. Deleon Guerrero, Hazel Handayan, Sylvia C. Leon Guerrero, Chet C. Lynch, Martha R. Mendiola, Carla C. Naog, Maira Rios, Shu Yuan Wang, and Merry Joy Yamanaka.
The inductees joined provisional members Maricon Bricia, Nikika Harris, and Joseprima Lacorte.
President Lee Castro welcomed alumni, guests and family members during the ceremony. He provided brief remarks to open the ceremony. NMC founding member and former president Agnes McPhetres served as the keynote speaker during the ceremony.
McPhetres congratulated the inductees and reminded them to always strive for academic excellence and value the significance of education in the community.
Beta Lambda Psi advisors Larry Lee and Debra Cabrera led the oath-taking of the inductees. Cabrera also led the recognition of the provisional members in the group. Fellow advisor Sobolweski joined the ceremony.
Currently the roster of officers of the group include: Castro, president; Rose Marie Jones, vice-president; Joleen Salas, secretary for public relations; Leah M. Hocog, secretary of recording; Yoshida; and Jacklyn E. Echon, treasurer.
“We wish to thank all those who have supported and contributed in many ways to the formation and continued success of the Beta Lambda Psi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at the Northern Marianas College,” said the written statement from the officers, members, alumni and advisors of the group.
