PIC season comes to a close
It came down to the final week of the regular season before the two juggernauts determined first place in the Yellow Division, and the teams didn’t disappoint as We’re All Going Streaking defeated Pulullun Part II to shore up the top spot in 8th Annual Miller Lite Coed Four-Person Volleyball League.
The action at the Pacific Islands Club was intense Tuesday night as Dale “Dread Pirate” Roberts and company brought their “A-Game” to the San Antonio sand against their divisional foes, and they wasted little time handing Pulullun Part II an 11-1 loss in the opener.
Captain Michael Ray sat out the second set to try and spark some offense for Pulullun Part II but even his replacement was unable to stem the tide of powerful well-placed serves from emerging star Amanda Puleo.
Bill Owens and Hank Magofña worked well together offering up a combination of hammers and dinks from the Streakers side of the net to clinch the game with an 11-4 win in the second.
Stunned from their first loss of the season, Pulullun Part II tried to recover in the third to save face but was on the business end of the broom after suffering an 11-7 loss in the finale.
While the outcome was not completely unexpected, the Saipan International School’s loss to Dolphins-Blue Shine caught the Geckos off guard—as did the play of standout player-coach Tyce Mister.
The Marianas High School stars took the first set by storm, 11-5, but was unable to claim victory in the second as Melisa Halaby and the Geckos eked out a 12-10 win to even the set count at one apiece.
SIS was already assured of a playoff berth, but Rob Epley’s squad would have preferred to end the regular season’s slate on a winning note. That wasn’t in the cards as the Dolphins gobbled the Geckos in the rubber match, 11-2.
Fotten Gaga was able to end the season on a winning note but surprisingly missed out on the post-season after losing close contests earlier in the season. Those games were a distant memory when they swept Dolphins-Not Ashamed in straight sets, 11-5, 11-7, and 11-3.
Both teams played well during the regular season, and while the Dolphins managed only one win through seven games, that was one more win than SaipanCell notched on the sand.
James Lee and the masters of mobile communication fell for the seventh time on Tuesday night against worthy opponents as E.J. Lee’s Battered Fish Sticks broke out the brooms in the finale.
After clinching a post-season bid with back-to-back 11-5, 11-6 sets, Lee’s bunch of ballers skunked Saipancell 11-0 to close out the night and the season at the PIC.
