NMIFA Women calling for new players
While there is still another week before the Northen Mariana Islands Football Association Women’s League kicks off the playoffs for its second season of soccer on Saipan, organizers are already looking for new players to join their ranks in 2007.
According to Women’s League coordinator Brenda Schultz, the Women’s Spring 2007 season has been approved and interested participants are encouraged to register for the upcoming slate of games and practices.
The cost to register for the full season of soccer on Saipan is $25 and new players needn’t bring experience to the pitch. Schultz invited potential players to come to “boot camp” where the veterans will take the time to teach them how to play from January to mid-February.
Some of the players who laced up their cleats and strapped on the shin pads didn’t return for the fall session of ball at the American Memorial Park, and Schultz called for all of the past and prospective kickers to sign up.
“Come on out and sign up! Bring a friend,” she said.
The registration begins on Dec. 2 at the AMP from 8:30am to 11am and continues on Dec. 11 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium from 8:30am to 11am. After “boot camp” wraps up the real practices will begin on Feb. 21 at 5pm and continue through the slate of games on March 10.
